Union Berlin captain Christopher Trimmel has signed a new contract with the Bundesliga club.

The length of the 35-year-old full-back's new deal is unclear.

"When I came to Berlin more than eight years ago, the clear goal was to be promoted to the Bundesliga at some point, and I was convinced I would experience something great with Union. The last few years have been incredibly emotional and formative for the club, but also for me personally. I'm very happy to continue to be a part of, and to shape all of that," commented Trimmel.

Union Berlin director of professional football Oliver Ruhnert added:

"Christopher has known the club for many years, he is an absolute identification figure for both other players and fans. His sporting achievements speak for themselves and we are delighted to have found a good basis for his future with Union."
