Borussia Mönchengladbach will be without Ko Itakura for the foreseeable future.

Die Fohlen announced on Thursday that the 26-year-old centre-back will have to undergo surgery on his ankle due to recurring injuries.

As a result, Itakura will be unavailable for Gladbach for "several weeks," according to the club.

"Ko Itakura has to have this minor surgery so he can play without pain in the future. We're hoping that he'll be back in training with us after the international break in the middle of November," said Gladbach coach Gerardo Seoane at a press conference today, as quoted by the club.

Itakura has made eight appearances for the Bundesliga side this season.

He's expected to be replaced in central defense by Manuel Friedrich in Saturday's match against Heidenheim.
