Boniface stars as Leverkusen cruise to victory over Frankfurt

Table toppers Leverkusen progressed on a 3-0 scoreline with goals coming from Boniface, Frimpong, and Wirtz.
As has been the case all season, Leverkusen started in the ascendancy from the off. Inside 14 minutes they led 1-0 through the boot of Boniface. The Nigerian striker cut inside Tuta and beat Trapp who ought to have done better.

Aside from the opening goal, chances were few and far between as both Frankfurt and Leverkusen held their defensive shape. Florian Wirtz threatened on occasion, meanwhile Die Adler almost equalised when Tuta almost fired goalwards but for Tah's timely intervention.

Frankfurt looked sharp after the restart but Xavi Alonso's side struck again inside six second-half minutes. Some fine work afforded Boniface space to shoot. Trapp was equal to the effort but his save fell kindly for Frimpong who tapped home to the empty net. Leverkusen found themselves 3-0 to the good before the hour mark as Wirtz lobbed Trapp to add further Die Werkself delight.

As the game wore on there was a couple of marginal penalty appeals, which included a Buta handball on Grimaldo's pass but nothing came. While final chances fell to Wirtz and Hincapié who hit the crossbar and post respectively, the result was already more than confirmed.
