Official: Schuster succeeds Streich at Freiburg

Julian Schuster has been confirmed as SC Freiburg's new coach. He replaces Christian Streich in the summer.
Following the announcement earlier this week that Christian Streich will step down as Freiburg coach this summer, the club have now named his successor.

38-year-old Julian Schuster, who captained the club as a player, will take over at the end of the season.

"Being the coach of the Sport-Club is both a matter of the heart and a challenge for me. I am aware of the task and approach it with full conviction, but also with humility and respect," said Schuster, who currently serves as coordinator of talent management at the club.

"Unity, passion and solidarity with the city and the region - these are the values that characterize the Sport-Club for me. I look forward to living and developing these values together with the team, the staff and the fans.

"I would like to thank those responsible for the trust they have placed in me, as well as Christian Streich and all the SC coaches who have accompanied me to this point, for their close and intensive cooperation."

The parties have agreed not to reveal the duration of the contract.
