Hummels weighs in on Sancho's revival: "Attackers often have to learn that hard work pays off"

Borussia Dortmund appear back in the swing of things after a 3-0 defeat of Bielefeld. Team talisman Mats Hummels remained cautious in his post-game remarks, but still found room to praise the team's resurgent English attacker.
A defeat of FC Sevilla in the Champions' League, a 4-0 win over rivals Schalke last week in the Revierderby, and now another clean slate against Arminia in round 23. A string of three strong successive matches means little to a club that must now face Gladbach in the Pokal, Bayern next weekend, then Sevilla again in a tough return-leg.

"We're playing a bit more purposefully, a bit more seriously," Hummels told the Sky Microphones after Saturday's victory, "but, we're not where we could be. One could see the improvement, but there's still a lot of potential for betterment."

Hummels referenced Sergio Cordova's missed chance in the first-half, suggesting that Uwe Neuhaus' team could have attained a 1-0 change, thereby altering the tenor of the match. The game nevertheless yielded many positive aspects for the BVB. Brazilian prodigy Reiner finally opened his Bundesliga account. Jadon Sancho's revival also continued via a converted penalty that placed him on the scoresheet.

"He's been playing very well for a while," Hummels said of Sancho, who has garnered six scorer points in the last four matches, "He's been working very differently these past months on the training pitch and in the weight room. That ends up paying off. That's something that attackers often have to learn; that hard work pays off. The fact that he has offensive potential possessed by few others is something we all know."

Hummels labeled the next three upcoming fixtures "three real crackers" and noted that "this is where we'll really prove whether we've improved or not."
