Report: AC Milan have eyes for Embolo

Borussia Mönchengladbach attacker Breel Embolo's stock certainly went up after his impressive performance in the Swiss national team's opening European Championship group stage match on Saturday.

The Athletic reports that at least one major European club maintains interest in the former FC Basel youth prodigy.

Gladbach's Breel Embolo's day against Wales in his country's Euro 2020 opener might be marred by several pivotal misses, but the 24-year-old still earned man-of-the-match honors after earning a crucial corner in the 49th minute, then finishing off the subsequent service.

Bundesliga watchers know the Swiss international as the big money transfer that ultimately proved something of a flop at the now relegated FC Schalke 04. The Königsblauen dispensed with him after the 2018/19 campaign, shipping him off to Nordrhein-westfalen for less than half of what they paid for him.

According to sporting website The Athletic, one of the Serie A's major clubs still has interest in once again making Embolo a blue-chip player. A report appearing on the digital magazine also notes that Max Eberl and the BMG administrators would be willing to sell the attacker if an offer above his purchase price came in.

Embolo cost the foals a paltry €11 million during the 2019 summer transfer window. Schalke paid €26.5 million for him in 2016. Coming off a respectable season--six goals and seven assists across all competitions--transfermarkt currently lists his market value at €16 million.
