Deichstube Report: Gladbach drop interest in Sargent, Frankfurt tender lowball bid

Relegated Bundesliga club SV Werder Bremen remains €9.4 million short of the transfer revenue needed by the end of June to comply with DFL licensing regulations for the 2. Bundesliga.

With it looking increasingly unlikely that a Bundesliga side has the will to pull the trigger on a €15 million exit clause for Kosovar winger Milot Rashica, focus now shifts to American striker Josh Sargent.

According to Bremen's well-sourced fan site Deichstube.de, Borussia Mönchengladbach have dropped their interest in the 21-year-old. Eintracht Frankfurt are said to have tendered an offer which falls short of sporting director Frank Baumann's asking price.

A potential move to Eintracht Frankfurt for once highly prized winger Milot Rashica has been off the table for some time. Some negotiations early in the month saw Eintracht Frankfurt apparently seek to come to some sort of arrangement whereby the 24-year-old's €15 million release clause could be paid jointly with Werder still obtaining enough revenue to meet its new licensing requirements.

With these negotiations, somewhat predictably, falling apart, Eintracht have now tendered an offer to the Hanseaten of some €5 million for American striker Josh Sargent. This is according to Bremen's reliable fan-site Deichstube.de. The report appearing on the site also notes that Gladbach have officially rescinded their interest in Sargent after Baumann sought a transfer fee of over €10 million.

The "poker" over Sargent is likely to continue over the next two weeks as Bremen still have not managed to sell off a single one of their assets with just 14 days left to raise the requisite money for the 2. Bundesliga license. Stuttgart are also said to be interested in Sargent, who retains an estimated market value of €8 million.

Other marketable assets that the Hanseaten might sell off include Maximilian Eggestein (€7.5 million), Ludwig Augustinsson (€10 million), and Jiri Pavlenka (€5.5 million).

There are said to be plenty of suitors for all three. It will likely prove the case that EPL clubs, which possess more financial leeway that Bundesliga organizations, will submit some bids in the coming days.
