Germany Women’s legend Alexandra Popp will leave VfL Wolfsburg as a free agent at the end of the season to join Borussia Dortmund. The three-time Germany Women’s Footballer of the Year winner spent 14 successful years at Wolfsburg.

Borussia Dortmund are currently playing third-tier football in Regionalliga West. With only one team having the chance to join the playoff for 2. Bundesliga promotion, they’re competing with Köln II to finish top of the league.

The 34-year-old signed a three-year contract for Dortmund as she hopes to help them to their first-ever promotion to the Frauen-Bundesliga. Although she announced her retirement from international football in September 2024, Popp is still among one of the only five players to reach double digits this season.
