With Bayer Leverkusen having failed to win any of their last five matches in all competitions, Kasper Hjulmand’s future as head coach has recently been questioned.

After Kicker described a summer departure for the Dane as “inevitable”, Sky Germany suggested that Die Werkself are keeping tabs on Brighton & Hove Albion coach Fabian Hürzeler.

For now, however, Leverkusen sporting managing director Simon Rolfes insists there are no plans to part ways with Hjulmand.

“A coaching change is not a scenario we are considering. For us, it is clear: we want to be successful in this setup. We still have every chance of achieving our seasonal objective,” Rolfes told Bild.

The objective in question is qualification for the Champions League. With Die Werkself currently sitting sixth after three consecutive league draws – most recently a 3-3 tie against Heidenheim – and four points behind RB Leipzig in fourth place, improvement is needed.

"Our problem is: we delivered a really good performance against Bayern and didn’t win, we played a good first half against Heidenheim and didn’t close it out. That is frustrating. Now Heidenheim must be our wake-up call,so that when the pressure is on, we manage to see out games from the first to the last minute."

Hjulmand's contract runs until 2027.
