Bayer Leverkusen have officially announced the signing of Afonso Moreira, who joins from French first-division club Olympique Lyon.

The Portuguese U-21 international has signed a contract with the Bundesliga club from the Rhineland until 30 June, 2031.

Last year in France, the left winger made 37 appearances across all competitions, scoring eight goals and providing eleven assists.

"Afonso Moreira is a fast, agile, and skillful striker with a good finishing ability and excellent vision," said sporting director Simon Rolfes.

"His pace and intense style of play are a perfect fit for our team. With Afonso, we gain additional firepower and creativity in attack.

“We are delighted to welcome such an exciting and promising player to our Werkself jersey,” Rolfes added.

The young winger himself added that he is “very proud and happy to be able to wear the Bayer Leverkusen jersey” going forward.

"From the very first conversation, I had the feeling that this club was an excellent fit for my sporting ambitions.

“This recognition meant a great deal to me and was a key reason for my decision to join Leverkusen," Moreira added.
