Bayer 04 Leverkusen have officially confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Mark Flekken from Brentford FC.

The 31-year-old Dutch international has signed a contract with the Bundesliga side that runs until 2028.

“Mark Flekken possesses a wide range of qualities required of a modern top-level goalkeeper,” said Bayer 04 managing director for sport Simon Rolfes.

“He has excellent reflexes, commands his area with authority, and his height of 1.95 meters gives him exceptional reach. Physically, he has a strong presence, and from a footballing standpoint, he has certainly been one of the Premier League’s top keepers over the past two seasons.

"He knows the Bundesliga from his successful time in Freiburg. His years in England and his role in the Dutch national team have also given him a great deal of international experience. With that, we're very well positioned in the goalkeeping department for the coming years," Rolfes added.

Flekken himself called the move to Leverkusen “a very special step” in his career.

“The many games against world-class players in England have really helped me develop,” he said.

“To now bring my qualities to a top German club with big ambitions both domestically and in Europe makes me very proud. I love the Bundesliga, and I’m really looking forward to competing in the Champions League with the Werkself.”
