Fortuna Düsseldorf have officially announced that long-serving player Matthias Zimmermann will remain at the club next season.

The 34-year-old has extended his expiring contract by one year and will play for the Red and Whites ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

Following his professional career, "Zimbo" is slated to be a key part for the U-23 team, thus ensuring his long-term commitment to Fortuna.

Zimmermann moved from VfB Stuttgart to Fortuna Düsseldorf in the summer of 2018 and has since made 250 competitive appearances.

Alongside his 15 goals and 22 assists, the 34-year-old is now ranked 20th on Fortuna's all-time appearance list.

“'Zimbo' has been highly valued within the team and the entire club for years. His commitment to Fortuna is a strong statement.

With his sporting quality, his experience, and his strong mentality, he is an important component of our squad," said sporting director Samir Arabi.
