Bayern Munich will have to do without Josip Stanišić for the time being, the Bavarian club confirmed this afternoon.

The defender suffered a ligament injury in his right ankle during Sunday evening's Bundesliga match against VfL Wolfsburg.

Stanišić played the entirety of Bayern's 8-1 triumph over the Lower Saxony side, but picked up the knock in the 92nd-minute of injury time.

At first, the Croatian tried to shrug off the pain but two minutes later he was forced to withdraw himself to the sidelines.

The reigning German champions finished the game with 10-men as coach Vincent Kompany had already availed of his five substitutes.

An examination has since been conducted by FC Bayern's medical department, which confirmed the full-back's misfortune.

The 25-year-old – who has played over 1,396 minutes for Bayern across all competitions – will be sidelined for an indefinite period.
