16-year-old FC Bayern München defender Filip Pavic has announced that he wants to represent Croatia at international level from now on.

Pavic is a Germany U16 international, but has now decided to switch allegiance to Croatia.

“I feel great gratitude, respect and love for Germany, where I grew up and live, where I learned to play football and where I have the opportunity to continue developing at one of the biggest clubs in the world, FC Bayern,” Pavic, who was born in the German town of Freising, explained in a statement.

“On the other hand, I grew up in a Croatian family, feel strongly connected to my Croatian roots, and want to represent Croatia at international level.”

The 16-year-old made his senior debut for FC Bayern München in a 4-1 UEFA Champions League win over Atalanta back in March.

He has represented Germany 13 times at youth level.
