SL Benfica have opened talks to sign Bayern Munich midfielder João Palhinha, according to Bild.

The Portuguese club are reportedly prepared to make an offer worth around €25 million – a figure at which Bayern would be willing to enter negotiations.

However, key sticking points remain, including Palhinha’s salary of around €8.5 million per year and the overall financial package required from Benfica.

A major supporter of the transfer is said to be Benfica head coach Marco Silva, who previously worked with the defensive midfielder at Fulham.

Palhinha spent last season on loan at Tottenham, who ultimately opted against activating their purchase option to sign him permanently.
