Borussia Dortmund are reportedly exploring the possibility of extending Chelsea loanee Carney Chukwuemeka’s stay for another season.

The midfielder’s loan was already extended by a few weeks for the Club World Cup, and according to WAZ, discussions are underway to prolong it further for the 2025/26 campaign.

Chelsea, however, are said to prefer a sale rather than another loan as they aim to trim down their squad and reduce salary expenses.

Chukwuemeka joined Dortmund on a six-month loan during the winter transfer window.

The 21-year-old midfielder has shown glimpses of his potential in Germany, but has been hampered by injuries.

Most recently, he missed Dortmund’s 2-1 win over Monterrey at the Club World Cup due to a cold.
