Borussia Dortmund remain hopeful that Nico Schlotterbeck’s contract can be extended beyond 2027.

The Black and Yellows have made it clear to the centre-back that they want to tie him down to a new deal, but he is still considering his options.

“We hope the decision will be positive. But it’s not time yet,” Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl told Ruhr Nachrichten.

“I know that Nico is giving this a lot of thought, that he feels a strong connection to this club, that this club means a lot to him. That’s why I remain optimistic,” he added.

“We are trying to create conditions that provide ‘Schlotti’ with an attractive environment. In the end, he wants to be successful and compete for titles. That’s what we all want. And we will also try to act responsibly financially and make everything possible.”

Top clubs such as Real Madrid and Manchester City are reportedly monitoring Schlotterbeck’s situation.

He has also been linked as a potential replacement for Dayot Upamecano at Bayern Munich should the Frenchman decide against extending his contract, which expires next summer.
