Fortuna Düsseldorf is sticking with Markus Anfang, as confirmed by thesecond-division club to the Rheinische Post this afternoon.

The head coach will remain in his position after new sporting director Sven Mislintat eventually reached this decision:

“The performances in the last few games, the work of Markus Anfang on and off the training pitch, and the discussions have shown that we are on the right track together to get out of this difficult phase,” said Mislintat.

Anfang only took over from the dismissed Daniel Thioune in October, but he too was unable to lead Fortuna out of their crisis.

Under the 51-year-old Cologne native, the Düsseldorf side managed just seven points from nine second-division matches.

Nevertheless, Mislintat apparently still believes in a turnaround under Anfang – although financial reasons may also be playing a role.
