Mainz boss expresses concern over Mateta's lack of playing time at Crystal Palace

Mainz boss Christian Heidel wants to talk to Crystal Palace if Jean-Philippe Mateta's situation doesn't improve.
Mainz head of sport Christian Heidel has expressed concern over Jean-Philippe Mateta's lack of playing time at Crystal Palace.

The French striker has struggled to nail down a starting place since he made the switch to London in January on loan until next summer.

Bild reports that Palace will get an option to sign Mateta on a permanent basis if he features 15 times this season, but after being limited to just two appearances so far, the 24-year-old's situation doesn't look promising.

"If the situation doesn't improve at all by winter, then we might have to talk to Crystal Palace about whether there are other options," Heidel admitted to Bild.

Mateta scored 27 goals in 71 games in a Mainz shirt.
