Official: Maaßen named new FCA head-coach
FC Augsburg officially confirmed the appointment of BVB II trainer Enrico Maaßen to the club's head-coaching position on Wednesday evening.
Reports surfacing over the weekend and then earlier in the day with respect to FC Augsburg's next head-coach proved correct. Dortmund reserve trainer Enrico Maaßen will take the reins for the Fuggerstädter. The club officially confirmed the appointment on its website and social media channels on Wednesday evening.
With respected to the reported upon transfer fee due to Dortmund, the FCA only divulged that "final details still needed to be clarified". The official length of the 38-year-old's contract, the Bavarian Swabians only noted that "agreement had been reached for cooperation in the coming years." Presumably, this means Maaßen has working papers through 2024.
"We have followed the development of Enrico Maaßen with great interest in recent years," FCA managing director Stefan Reuter noted in a statement on the club's website, "he is a young coach hungry for success. He works very intensively with young players and has proven that he can successfully develop them. In extensive and impressive talks, he conveyed clear ideas of modern football that fit FCA and our team."
The BVB itself released a statement from Maaßen expressing gratitude to Reuter and the administrative team for giving him the opportunity. Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl expressed regret at losing his trainer, but emphasized that his organization didn't wish to stand in the way of allowing him to coach a Bundesliga side.
