Fantasy Bundesliga tips: Midfielders to consider for the start of the 2022/23 season

Here are the midfielders you should consider when picking your Fantasy Bundesliga team for the start of the 2022/23 season.
With the new Bundesliga season just around the corner, we are ready to give you a helping hand with your Fantasy Bundesliga team.

In this article, we take a look at the midfielders you should have on your radar when you put together your squad.

Budget options:

Dominick Drexler (Schalke 04, 3M)
Drexler stepped in for the injured Simon Terodde in the cup and scored a brace in Schalke's 5-0 victory over Bremer SV. With Terodde set to miss out once more, Drexler should keep his starting place against Köln on Sunday.

Kevin Stöger (Bochum, 5M)
After impressing in the Bundesliga for Fortuna Düsseldorf, Stöger moved on to Mainz, where he never really found his feet. Now he has switched to Bochum, where he's expected to play a key role in midfield.

Ritsu Doan (Freiburg, 8M)
The Japanese international, who impressed on loan at Bielefeld during the 20/21 campaign, is back in the Bundesliga. He should be nailed on to start, as he had an impressive pre-season and scored the winner in the pokal against Kaiserslautern over the weekend. Freiburg’s opening game against Augsburg is tasty, and 8 million is a great price for Doan, who is a great alternative to his more expensive teammate Vincenzo Grifo (13 million).

Mid-range options:

Marcel Sabitzer (Bayern, 11M)
With Leon Goretzka out injured, Marcel Sabitzer looks set to start alongside Kimmich in midfield, as he currently seems to be ahead of new signing Ryan Gravenberch in the pecking order. Bringing in a midfielder from Bayern is a good idea, and if you can't afford Kimmich, Sabitzer comes at a lower cost.

Jude Bellingham (Dortmund, 12M)
After taking another impressive step forward in the 21/22 campaign, which saw him rack up three goals and eight assists in 32 Bundesliga games, the 19-year-old wonderkid will probably only be even better in the upcoming season. With a price of 12 million, Bellingham costs a little less than the most expensive midfielders, but also plays deeper than most of them.

Vincenzo Grifo (Freiburg, 13M)
Freiburg's attacking talisman takes all set pieces, including penalties, and was the second-highest scoring midfielder in the game last season with 289 points (9 on average), only behind Christopher Nkunku.

Premium options:

Marco Reus (Dortmund, 14M)
Reus is no longer a striker, but a midfielder in the game, which makes him more attractive and easier to fit in at the same time. The 33-year-old has been unlucky with injuries in the past, but he has actually stayed relatively injury-free in the last two seasons. His numbers from last season – nine goals and 17 assists – speak for themselves.

Jonas Hofmann (Gladbach, 14M)
Although Gladbach really struggled last season, Hofmann had an excellent campaign on a personal level, finding the net 12 times and providing five assists in 26 Bundesliga games. He also put in some really impressive performances for Germany in the UEFA Nations League back in June, and it's no coincidence that he has practically been promised a place in his country's World Cup squad by head coach Hansi Flick.

Joshua Kimmich (Bayern, 15M)
Despite his defensive responsibility for Bayern, Kimmich is a proven Fantasy asset, who always picks up good points on a regular basis. He finished last season as the fifth-best performing midfielder in the game behind Nkunku, Grifo, Hofmann and Kostic.

Christopher Nkunku (RB Leipzig, 15M)
Looing at Nkunku's hugely impressive 2021/22 campaign, which deservedly saw him named Bundesliga Player of the Season, the Frenchman is really hard to overlook.
