Goretzka: “I haven’t lost a final in my eight years at Bayern - and there was no way that was going to change tonight!”

Leon Goretzka bid farewell to FC Bayern Munich in perfect fashion on Saturday night, helping the Bavarians to a 3-0 win over VfB Stuttgart in the DFB-Pokal final. After the match, the midfielder reflected on the emotional evening, the atmosphere in Berlin and his proud record in finals with Bayern.

Leon Goretzka ended his Bayern Munich career on a high after helping the Bundesliga champions beat Stuttgart 3-0 in the DFB-Pokal final in Berlin on Saturday night.

Although the evening carried extra emotional weight as his final appearance for the club, the midfielder insisted his focus remained firmly on lifting the trophy.

“In my eyes, this was not a farewell match, but an important final — and I’m happy that we won it. But of course I’m also enjoying the fans giving me special recognition once again.”

The 31-year-old also praised the atmosphere inside the Olympiastadion, highlighting the contribution from both sets of supporters.

“You could really feel that our fans can create an incredible atmosphere and that was important today — and of course you could hear the Stuttgart fans as well.”

Goretzka also revealed he had challenged Harry Kane before kick-off to deliver on the big stage — something the England captain certainly managed with the opening goal of the game.

“I told Harry Kane today that he had to perform, and as we saw, he definitely did that.”

The Germany international leaves Bayern with an extraordinary record in finals and admitted he reminded his teammates of that fact before the match.

“I haven’t lost a final in my eight years at Bayern — and I told the boys today that we couldn’t let that change tonight.”

As celebrations continued around him, Goretzka cut his interview short with a smile after hearing music playing in the background.

“I have to go now quickly, this is my favourite song!”
