Official: Omlin joins Gladbach
Shortly after Yann Sommer was unveiled at FC Bayern München, Borussia Mönchengladbach confirmed the signing of their new #1 net-minder.
Mere minutes after Yann Sommer posed for the cameras in Bavaria, Sommer's Swiss compatriot Jonas Omlin got his turn in Nordrhein-Westfalen. The 29-year-old four-times-capped international joins Borussia Mönchengladbach on a new contract good through 2027. Early reports from Sky Germany suggest that the foals were able to talk Montpellier down to a transfer fee of about €8 million; meaning that they netted a small net gain on Sommer's transfer.
"With the signing of Jonas Omlin, we have found a very good solution from our perspective" Gladbach's sporting director Roland Virkus noted in a statement "He is a very reliable goalkeeper with a very vibrant game, strong on the line and also with the ball at his feet."
Omlin himself had long expressed the hope to play in one of the top four leagues whilst playing for former club FC Basel and after moving to Montpellier last summer. The Sarnen-native kept three clean sheets La Paillade in Ligue 1 this season. He kept all balls out of the back of the net a further nine times in Ligue 1 whilst playing on loan for Le Mont during the 2021/22 campaign.
✍ Borussia hat den Schweizer Nationaltorwart Jonas #Omlin verpflichtet. Der 29-Jährige wechselt mit sofortiger Wirkung vom @MontpellierHSC an den Niederrhein und hat einen bis zum 30. Juni 2027 laufenden Vertrag unterschrieben.
