RB Leipzig picked up three important Champions League points on Wednesday, beating Crvena Zvezda 3-1 at home.

David Raum played a key role in the win and was named UEFA Player of the Match after scoring his first Champions League goal to draw first blood for Leipzig.

In a post-match interview with UEFA.com, Raum reflected on what was a very special night for him.

"It's an amazing feeling. First of all, we're very happy and I'm very happy that we won this game. We wanted to get a statement win. In the end, it wasn't that easy – Crvena zvezda had some good chances too. They played well today but we scored the first goal," said Raum and added:

"For me it's a very special feeling to score my first Champions League goal, then assist on the second and bring in the corner for the third. It was an amazing night for me and I’m happy to help the team. We're all very happy that we got the second three points in the group."

As RB Leipzig coach Marco Rose pointed out, Raum has generally been in great form this season.

"He has shown the form he's in this season. He always wants everything, and at the moment it just works out for him. He scored a goal; he shut down his side. He's the player of the match – congrats," he said.
