DFB-Pokal Frauen Final: FC Bayern Frauen vs. VfL Wolfsburg Frauen

Bayern Munich and Wolfsburg will lock horns for the DFB-Pokal Frauen glory in the next installment of their rivalry in women's football. The Bavarians ended Wolfsburg's decade long dominance in the competition when they lifted the cup for the only second time in their history last season.

José Barcala won the league in his debut campaign as Bayern's coach, while his team reached the semi-final of the Women's Champions League. As for Wolfsburg, they are in danger of ending back-to-back seasons without a trophy for the first time since winning the treble in 2012/13.

Including the curtain-raiser Super Cup meeting, Bayern have beaten Wolfsburg thrice this season with an aggregate score of 11-4. However, Wolfsburg were victorious in the previous two cup finals between the clubs. Jule Brand (OL Lyonnes) and Dominique Janssen (Manchester United), who both played against their former club in this season's Champions League, scored for Wolfsburg in a 2-0 victory over their fierce rivals in the 2023/24 final.

DFB-Pokal Frauen finals are played in RheinEnergieStadion since 2010. The women's football season in Germany will conclude on Sunday with Frauen-Bundesliga's last matchday games set to be played simultaneously.

Alexandra Popp will be hoping to win this competition for a staggering 14th time before her summer move to Borussia Dortmund. The former Germany captain was included in Wolfsburg's squad for the game against Freiburg after missing weeks due to an injury.

Meanwhile, Stephan Lerch will have to deal with the continued absences of Kessaya Bussy (knee) and Caitlin Dijkstra (muscle).

The holders will have the full squad minus long-term absentees Sarah Zadrazil, Lina Oberdorf and Jovana Damnjanovic. The 32-year-old Franziska Wildfeuer will referee her first cup final, while there is VAR in place to help officiating in key moments.
