Dortmund play up 'gentlemen's agreement' in light of Sancho & Haaland speculation
The ‘gentlemen’s agreement’ is an informal non-binding agreement, which is usually a verbal agreement between two or more parties. It typically lies upon the personal honor of the parties involved to fulfil it, rather than being enforceable.
Sancho came very close to moving to Manchester United before the current season but a move did not materialize due to ‘certain requirements’ not being met, according to Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc.
On the other hand, Erling Haaland’s recent tour around Europe with his agent Mino Raiola has been well documented.
The club have now confirmed that Sancho will be allowed to move without any restrictions in light of a ‘gentleman’s agreement’.
According to Zorc, certain conditions have to be met in order to lure the England international away from the Signal Iduna Park.
Zorc also emphasized the fact that Haaland does not possess the same agreement as his forward-line teammate.
He said: "We already had a gentlemen's agreement with Jadon last year that he can switch under certain conditions. He's been with us for a couple of years. However, this agreement does not exist with Erling."
Manchester United very extremely close to signing Sancho last year.
Speaking of which, Zorc said: "In the end, the requirements were not met."
His comments come just a day after Haaland’s agent Raiola said he was confident the Norwegian striker would move at the end of the current Bundesliga season in the upcoming summer transfer window.
