Patrik Schick has confirmed that he is in talks with Bayer Leverkusen about potentially extending his contract beyond 2027.

“Of course, it’s nice that the club believes in me. We are in negotiations, but we still need a little more time to discuss everything calmly,” the Czech forward told Sport Bild.

“I can imagine extending my contract. However, it might take a while before we reach an agreement.”

Schick also shared his first impressions of new coach Erik ten Hag, who has come in to replace Xabi Alonso.

“We’ve only been together for a handful of days. He has explained how he wants us to play. He wants it to be very tough to face Bayer Leverkusen. No opponent should enjoy playing against us. He wants us to be physically prepared at the highest level,” said Schick.

“And of course, he’s a coach from the Netherlands, so he wants us to attack and regain possession as quickly as possible when we lose the ball. These are the fundamentals we’ll be working on in the coming weeks.”
