With RB Leipzig winless in their last six games in all competitions, the pressure is mounting on head coach Marco Rose.
And should Rose lose his job, Leipzig have a clear favorite to replace him in Roger Schmidt, according to Sport Bild.
The former RB Salzburg coach has been on the market since being sacked by Benfica at the end of August.
However, Sky Germany reported on Monday that the 57-year-old is likely to be difficult to recruit for the time being as he's still on a well-paid contract with Benfica.
In the short term, former Augsburg and Schalke 04 coach Manuel Baum could be appointed on an interim basis, according to the report.
Erik ten Hag, who was recently sacked by Manchester United, has also been linked with Leipzig.
Jürgen Klopp, who takes over as Red Bull's new Head of Soccer on January 1, would have to approve any potential successor.
