Bayern Munich are planning to include Jonas Urbig in their squad for the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States as a backup to Manuel Neuer, according to Sky Germany.

As a result, the 21-year-old goalkeeper will not be available for selection for Germany’s squad for the Under-21 European Championship in Slovakia.

Urbig is the second-choice goalkeeper for the German U21s, sitting behind Freiburg’s Noah Atubolu in the pecking order.

Although Neuer has returned to full fitness following a long spell out with a calf injury, new Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany is said to be eager to have Urbig as an alternative in goal during the tournament.

With Bayern reportedly considering a plan to split playing time between the two in goal next season, the Club World Cup could serve as a valuable opportunity for Urbig to gain experience at the highest level and continue learning from the experienced Neuer.
