Shinji Kagawa is still playing a big role for J1 League side Cerezo Osaka at the age of 37. Ahead of his club’s friendly game against Borussia Dortmund, the marketing director of the Bundesliga side commented on future cooperation with the two-time Bundesliga champion.

“We partly owe Shinji (Kagawa) for BVB’s popular status in Japan,” Carsten Cramer explained on Dortmund's first day of a Japan trip. “It's the fourth time we've come to Japan. This is very closely linked to Shinji. He also knows that when his active career comes to an end, and he wants to take on a role for BVB, he is an absolutely sought-after man for us.”

Borussia Dortmund will face Cerezo Osaka on Wednesday before completing their trip with another game against FC Tokyo. The Black and Yellows will then complete their pre-season with friendlies against Arsenal and AS Roma in the Emirates Cup.

Kagawa played 216 games in all competitions for Dortmund during two spells. After continuing his playing career in Spain, Greece and Belgium, the midfielder returned to his hometown club Cerezo Osaka in 2023.
