Eintracht Frankfurt have confirmed that Dino Toppmöller is leaving his position as head coach with immediate effect.
The 45-year-old has been relieved of his duties following a run of just one win in the club’s last nine competitive matches.
Eintracht’s U21 coach, Dennis Schmitt, and U19 coach, Alexander Meier, will take over on an interim basis until further notice, with Schmitt assuming the leading role.
“Dino Toppmöller has always fully identified with Eintracht Frankfurt and worked for this club every day with great passion,” said board member for sport Markus Krösche.
“We greatly value his professional expertise, his professionalism, his meticulous approach, and his human way of dealing with the team. Nevertheless, following an intensive internal evaluation, the sporting management and the executive board have jointly come to the conviction that, due to the declining development in recent weeks, we need a new sporting impulse. So far this season, we have only insufficiently lived up to our ambition as Eintracht Frankfurt to stand for dynamic, aggressive, and compact football.”
Toppmöller, who took over as head coach in 2023, commented:
“I would have very much liked to continue working with this team and to keep facing the challenges that exist. But I accept the decision. I went to Eintracht every day with great passion and joy and, regardless of the currently unsatisfactory situation – which undoubtedly exists – I am proud of what we have achieved together over the past two and a half years. It’s a shame that we are not continuing together.
“Thanks to everyone who believed in me, who gave me this opportunity, and who placed their trust in me for a long time. Thanks to all the players, the entire coaching and support staff, the board, and all employees of the club. It was an honor for me. I wish Eintracht calmer and, above all, successful times.”
