Nicolò Tresoldi to stay with Germany

Nicolò Tresoldi informed the Italian Football Federation that he will remain with Germany, according to the Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sporte. The Club Brugge striker changed his mind shortly after his side's Champions League fixture against Aston Villa, where he scored in a 3-2 loss.

Tresoldi has long been involved in an international tug-of-war, with both Italy and Germany desperate for a striker. He was born in Cagliari, but moved to Germany at a young age, playing in Hannover's academy and picking up German citizenship.

Now at Belgian side Club Brugge, Tresoldi has represented Germany at youth level since 2022, and currently plays for the U21s. However, there has been pressure from Italy in recent years, and Tresoldi expressed interest in playing for the Azzurri to head coach Roberto Mancini and technical director Claudio Ranieri.

Now, there's been a U-turn, as the striker will finish the U21 Euros qualifying campaign with Germany and likely appear at the tournament next summer. He would be a big addition for a Germany side that has struggled to find a top striker recently, using both Kai Havertz and Deniz Undav during the latest World Cup. 

Tresoldi currently has five goals in seven games this season for Club Brugge and has reportedly earned interest from top clubs in Europe. He is also eligible to play for Argentina.
