Borussia Mönchengladbach confirmed on Saturday that central midfielder Jens Castrop will be sidelined for months due to a shoulder injury. The South Korean international suffered the injury during Gladbach’s 15-0 win over FC Rottach-Egern on Wednesday.

It is the third unfortunate incident in Gladbach’s preparations for the new season as Fabio Chiarodia and new signing Juchym Konoplija also sustained injuries.

Castrop was a regular fixture for Gladbach last season after joining them from 2. Bundesliga side Nürnberg. The 23-year-old played at the World Cup as South Korea were knocked out in the group stage.

"This is bitter news for all of us. Now we hope for a good and fast healing process," said Gladbach’s chief Rouven Schröder. Gladbach beat fellow Bundesliga side Hoffenheim 4-1 in a friendly game yesterday.
