TSG defender Valentin Gendrey has suffered a torn syndesmosis and a broken outer ankle, according to MRI scans carried out at the clinic. The Frenchman twisted his right foot awkwardly during training and will be out of action for Hoffenheim until further notice.

“This is obviously absolutely brutal for Valle [Gendrey]. Having just recovered from a broken collarbone, he now has to cope with another bitter setback. We will definitely be closely supporting him on his road to recovery and giving him all the support he needs,” says Andreas Schicker, sporting director at Hoffenheim.

After the sale of club legend Pavel Kadeřábek and the injury to Valentin Gendrey, Hoffenheim do not have a nominal right-back in the squad.

While players like Akpoguma, Chaves, Drexler and Bernardo could potentially be used as cover on the right side, it wouldn't be too much of a surprise, if Hoffenheim look for a more natural replacement on the transfer market.
