Füllkrug a confirmed out for Freiburg match

SV Werder Bremen have officially confirmed that lead striker Niclas Füllkrug will be unavailable for tomorrow's league fixture against SC Freiburg.

Niclas Füllkrug's calf issues will sideline the Bundesliga's leading scorer in his team's upcoming league showdown against SC Freiburg. This was confirmed by SV trainer Ole Werner on Saturday. The 30-year-old, according to Werner, should be able to make a quick comeback in time for next round's away match at Hertha.

"Niclas was already carrying a few knocks from the game against Mainz, which is why he can not play," Werner explained on Saturday, "Fülle's absence is of course bitter for us, but we will still do everything we can to keep the three points against Freiburg."

It remains unclear who will replace Füllkrug in tomorrow's match. Twenty-one-year-old striker Eren Dinkci is also dealing with injuries. Werner noted that he would have to "wait and see how he feels" when commenting on a possibility of a start for the youngster.

VfL Wolfsburg loanee Maximilian Philipp can play up top in a pinch, assuming that Werner wishes to retain his normal 3-5-2. The 29-year-old has thus far made only eight largely irrelevant relief appearances since joining the club late in the January transfer window.

Philipp has looked increasingly better in his appearances off the bench, but has yet to get his name on the scoresheet. The 29-year-old has scored a total of 27 Bundesliga goals during his time at Wolfsburg and Borussia Dortmund.
