FC Augsburg exercised their option of signing Michael Gregoritsch from Brøndby IF on a permanent transfer. According to Transfermarkt, the Bavarians had to pay only €500k to the Danish club.

The Austrian international had a spectacular half season back in Bundesliga as he scored six goals and assisted three times. The 32-year-old previously had a memorable spell at Augsburg as his personal best tally of 13 league goals came in his first season in the 2017/18 campaign.

However, Gregoritsch has now only put pen to paper on a one-year deal, with the option to extend by an additional year at the end of it. The tall striker is currently only two goals shy of Alfreð Finnbogason (37) to be the club's all-time top scorer in Bundesliga.

“In addition to being a team player and a real leader, Gregoritsch takes up responsibility both on and off the pitch. He's an important point of contact for our young players and new signings in particular, with the experience and support that he is able to provide them. As a result, we are delighted that he will continue to remain a key part of our team.” said FCA sporting director Benni Weber.

"I feel extremely at home at FC Augsburg, which I've made no secret of. I can sense the trust the club has in me and am extremely familiar with the surroundings here. I'm looking forward to continuing to represent FCA in the future. It's great to have been able to gain some clarity on what my future holds before the World Cup gets underway.” said Gregoritsch in the official announcement released by the club.

After scoring in each of the past two European championships, Gregoritsch is looking forward to his first World Cup. Austria are seeded in Group J with debutants Jordan, defending champions Argentina and Algeria in their first World Cup appearance in the 21st century.
