Equi Fernández has completed his move to Bayer Leverkusen from Al-Qadsiah. The transfer fee is expected to be around €25-30 million. The defensive midfielder was very close to joining Real Sociedad earlier this summer.

Fernández surprised many when he went to Saudi Arabia from Boca Juniors, despite plenty of interest from European top leagues. As it turns out, he only spent a season in the Saudi Pro League, where he helped newly-promoted Al-Qadsiah to a fourth-placed finish.

Leverkusen aren’t expected to sign any more players, despite Piero Hincapie’s pending move to Arsenal. They will now turn all their attentions to finding a new coach. Equi will wear the number 6 at his new club.
