FC Schalke 04 have officially announced the signing of Robin Gosens from Fiorentina. The 24-time Germany international arrives on an initial loan deal, with the agreement including clauses that could make the move permanent.

The 32-year-old returns to the Bundesliga following his stint with Union Berlin from 2023-25, though he enjoyed his most successful spells in Serie A with Atalanta, Inter Milan and, most recently, Fiorentina. His arrival adds a wealth of top-level experience and leadership to Schalke’s squad ahead of the new season.

“We are very happy that Robin Gosens has chosen to join us. We are getting a player of immense quality and a true leader for our team. In recent years, Robin has demonstrated commitment, mentality, and an unwavering will to succeed at his clubs and with the national team. His impressive career – from underrated talent to key player on the international stage – makes him a role model who, in our opinion, is a perfect fit for Schalke 04 and our fans. On the pitch, he brings passion, a goal threat, and tremendous stamina. These are qualities we need for our style of play in the Bundesliga,” said Youri Mulder, Schalke’s Director of Professional Football.

Gosens also expressed his enthusiasm after completing the move.

“Schalke 04 and its management made a real effort to sign me. They outlined their plan and explained exactly what my role would be and what they expect from me. That was absolutely convincing. I’m really up for it. I want to lead by example and take on responsibility. Everyone knows I have a special connection to Schalke. I’m really excited about this challenge and I’m looking forward to giving my all on the pitch with the guys.”

Gosens will wear the number 8 shirt for Schalke.
