Rolfes confirms that Azmoun has skipped training

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of Leverkusen's training camp, Bayer sporting director Simon Rolfes confirmed that returning loan player Sardar Azmoun has already failed to conform to club regulations.

After AS Roma declined to pull his purchase option, Iranian striker Sardar Azmoun reported back to his German parent club for performance diagnostics as instructed. B04 sporting director Simon Rolfes nevertheless confirmed 29-year-old has already failed to show up for the requisite summer training sessions.

"You don't just have to do performance diagnostics, you also have to train," Rolfes told reporters on Monday, "He was there yesterday, but not today. That means we have to clarify what's going on."

Azmoun remains under contract with the German champions through 2027. Azmoun has little to no sporting prospects with Germany's red company team, but it remains unclear as if an outright buyer for the center forward can be found.

Parties such as Sevilla, Fenerbahçe, and Olympique Lyon were reported to be interested in the safer prospect of a loan with a purchase option. Azmoun - once considered a €25 million player - maintains an estimated market worth of €8 million in the current transfermarkt listings.
