Werder Bremen's five-game unbeaten run came to a shuddering halt this afternoon as RB Leipzig inflicted a 2-0 defeat on their visitors

Despite the result, Romano Schmid took a lot of positives from the game and even felt his side performed better today than in recent outings.

"To be honest, in the five games before this, we didn't play nearly as well as we did today," said said the midfielder to DAZN, referring to the “conviction and will to help each other”.

“We all helped, we defended everything. There's a lot to take away from today's game. The only thing missing was the points," explained the Austrian.

Bremen's head coach Horst Steffen shared a similar vein of thought. However, he sensed his side were sloppy in possession which was ultimately punished by Leipzig.

“I thought the first fifteen minutes of the first half were okay, but then there was a lot of pressure, and we played three good passes and then the fourth went straight to the opponent.

"We gave the ball away and didn't get into any counter-attacks.  After half-time, I thought we played well and would have liked us to score a goal.

“I thought we were playing well for quite a while, then we got a screamer [from Leipzig's Assan Ouédraogo] that went perfectly into the top corner," Steffen pointed out.
