On Monday, Borussia Dortmund confirmed that Chelsea have decided to trigger an option to recall Aaron Anselmino early from his loan spell at the Bundesliga club.
According to Bild, the decision has left Dortmund “furious” with Chelsea, as there had been “no signals whatsoever” in the weeks leading up to the termination of the 20-year-old's loan.
Despite the surprise, Dortmund are reportedly not planning to sign a replacement, according to local outlets WAZ and Ruhr Nachrichten.
With Nico Schlotterbeck, Waldemar Anton, Ramy Bensebaini, Emre Can, Niklas Süle and Filippo Mané, the club feels sufficiently equipped in central defence without Anselmino.
Originally, the plan was to send Mané, 20, out on loan, but a winter departure now appears unlikely given the current squad situation.
