According to Sky Germany, SC Freiburg have expressed interest in bringing back Yannick Engelhardt to the Breisgau club.

The 25-year-old is currently on loan at Borussia Mönchengladbach from Como 1907 to the Rhineland club until the end of the season.

However, the Foals have no option to buy included in the deal and financial difficulties could further limit their chances of keeping him.

Freiburg supposedly see Engelhardt as a step in preparing for the potential departure of their young talent Johan Manzambi this summer.

Clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain, Bayer Leverkusen and Napoli have been linked with the Swiss international in recent months.

Interestingly, Engelhardt already represented Freiburg between 2021 to 2023 – however he only featured in the reserve team.

Engelhardt, largely deployed as a holding midfielder so far, has provided 2 goals and 2 assists for Gladbach in 27 topflight games.
