Newcastle United left-back Alex Murphy is on the verge of joining Kaiserslautern, according to the Daily Mail. The 22-year-old will move to the 2. Bundesliga side on a loan deal until the end of the season.
Daily Mail even reported he’s currently completing his medical check before the completion of the transfer. Murphy played seven Premier League minutes last season, and he also played in the Champions League win over Qarabag.
Kaiserslautern started their 2. Bundesliga campaign with a goalless draw at overwhelming promotion candidates Wolfsburg on Saturday evening. 20-year-old Mike Haas started that game as fellow left-back Florian Kleinhansl left for Darmstadt this summer.
The traditional club are also closing in on signing Matej Maglica from Darmstadt. Like the Croat, Murphy could also play as a center-back. The Galway native played at all youth levels for the Republic of Ireland.
