Winger Lee Buchanan of relegated EFL Championship side Derby County should complete his switch to top tier German football sometime this week. Newly promoted SV Werder Bremen have confirmed an agreement with the 21-year-old Englishman.

According to Werder's reliable fan-site, Deichstube, the twice-capped England U21 international will sign a contract with the Hanseaten through 2025. Valued at €3.5 million, the left-back should transfer on a free based on a termination clause in his current contract with the English Rams.

The homegrown Buchanan made the jump to the Derby senior side in 2019. He's made a total of 75 appearances for the club, scoring one goal and registering four assists. Buchanan can also play in central defense, but will likely be used predominantly on the left in one of Werder's biggest need areas.

The Hanseatic city-state side will, in all likelihood, still have a pressing need on the right. The latest on the club's efforts to permanently secure the services of the loaned-out Leverkusen right-back/winger Mitchell Weiser hold that the deal stands little chance of being completed.
