Nadiem Amiri has hailed the mentality and togetherness of the German national team after their 2-1 comeback win over Côte d’Ivoire in the World Cup on Saturday.
The 29-year-old midfielder came on after an hour and played a key role in turning the game around, setting up Deniz Undav’s equaliser.
“This was an absolute display of mentality from the team. The way we came back… Germany haven’t had that for a long time – such togetherness in the team, that we push ourselves to the limit and still turn games around,” Amiri said in a post-match interview.
“We can all be proud of ourselves. We knew that if we believed in ourselves and trusted each other, we could win the game.”
Amiri also reserved special praise for Deniz Undav, who scored both goals in Saturday’s win.
“Deniz is an absolute killer in front of goal – he doesn’t need many chances,” said the Mainz midfielder.
