Augsburg vs Mainz 05 preview: The visitors looking to maintain their unbeaten start

After collecting four points from their opening two league games, Mainz 05 will look to continue their unbeaten start to the season when they face an Augsburg side, who are aiming to clinch consecutive victories.

Augsburg

Augsburg will enter Saturday's contest in a confident mood after beating Bayer Leverkusen for the first-time ever in a Bundesliga contest last weekend. Fredrik Jensen gave Augsburg the lead in the first half before Charles Aránguiz equalised in the 43rd minute. The encounter looked to be heading towards a draw until Andre Hahn struck in the 82nd minute to win the game for Augsburg.

Their first Bundesliga victory of the campaign was a perfect response to the 4-0 defeat they suffered on the opening weekend of the season against Freiburg.

After winning away last weekend, Augsburg will turn their attention to Saturday's contest where they will aim to win at home for the first time this season. The hosts have lost three of their last four home league games, while they have conceded four goals in two of those contests.

They also have fared well in recent meetings with Mainz, winning eight out of their last 10 Bundesliga games against Mainz.
Augsburg

Augsburg have a number of injury concerns ahead of Sunday's contest.
Niklas Dorsch and Reece Oxford are both expected to miss out due to ankle and knee injuries respectively. Meanwhile, Lukas Petkov, Dikeni Salifou, Noah Sarenren Bazee and Tobias Strobl are also sidelined for the hosts.

Mainz 05

Mainz have started the season in fine form, and they will look to continue their promising start to the season on Saturday.

After beating Erzgebirge Aue 3-0 in the DFB-Pokal, Mainz edged out Bochum on the opening weekend of the Bundesliga season courtesy of a Karim Oniswio brace.

They were unable to pick up another victory last weekend, but they could be content with a goalless draw against a difficult Union Berlin side.

Bo Svensson's side will now focus on Saturday's encounter where they will look to maintain their unbeaten start to the season, while they can also extend their undefeated Bundesliga run to six matches.

Although they struggled away from home last season, Mainz have won their last three competitive away games, with two of those victories taking place in the Bundesliga. As a result, they have the chance to claim consecutive away wins in the top flight for the first time since April 2021.
