Hamburger SV are in serious danger of being relegated from the Bundesliga for the first time in the club's history.

And in these tough times for the club, former player Rafael van der Vaart, who know plays for Danish club FC Midtjylland, says he is in touch with HSV president Bernd Hoffmann and that he is willing to help the club if needed.

"I have very much kept in touch with Bernd Hoffmann. If HSV want to talk with me, I will be there. It's important to bring people together who are there for the club and who have played for it. Then you can work at bringing HSV back up if the club go down," van der Vaart tells Sportbuzzer.

It isn't the first time Rafael van der Vaart has offered HSV his help.

"I would really like to help, and it wouldn't matter to me if it would be in the 2. Bundesliga. It would be an honor. As a player or in another role," he told Sport1 back in March.

After a disappointing stay at FC Midtjylland, whom van der Vaart joined in 2016, the 35-year-old is out of contract this summer. The former Dutch international says he wants to play for one more year, but hasn't found a club yet.

"I hope that something good turns up - either in Denmark or somewhere else. I have one year left," he told Sportbuzzer.

Rafael van der Vaart played for HSV from 2005 to 2008 and from 2012 to 2015. He has made 199 appearances and netted 66 times for the club.
