After Germany's two most reliable footballing media sources reported late Saturday evening that Jerome Boateng might be on his way back to the record champs, FC Bayern München made no effort to disguise their interest in their former player on Sunday morning. The FCB released a statement confirming that the 35-year-old had been invited to join the reserves for a training session on Sunday morning.

Boateng is thus back at the Säbener Straße as a guest for the time being. The youngest brother of the famous Berlin footballing family has been club-less since his contract with Olympique Lyon was not renewed this past summer. Bayern are known to be seeking additional reinforcements in central defense despite the fact that head-coach Thomas Tuchel already has three high-valued players at the position in Matthijs de Ligt, Dayot Upamecano, and Min Jae-Kim.

De Ligt has been forced to sit the last two fixtures out injured. Tuchel was specifically critical of Upamecano and Kim following last night's 2-2 draw with Leipzig Marking errors from both center backs played a role in Leipzig being able to rush out to a 2-0 lead at the half. Boateng represented Bayern for a full decade before departing on a free in the summer of 2021.
