Bayern coach Hansi Flick praises physical condition of his team ahead of Bundesliga restart

"I'm very pleased with the condition of the team," Bayern München coach Hansi Flick says ahead of his team's Bundesliga game against Union Berlin on Sunday.
Bayern München coach Hansi Flick is satisfied with the physical condition of his players ahead of Sunday's Bundesliga clash with Union Berlin.

Philippe Coutinho, Corentin Tolisso and Niklas Süle are sidelined with long-term injuries while Javi Martinez is a doubt. Otherwise, Flick has a full squad to pick from for the Bundesliga restart.

"I'm very pleased with the condition of the team. We still have three long-term injuries: Coutinho, Tolisso and Süle. Javi Martinez has only done running training. I don't know if he will be fit for Sunday," the Bayern coach said at the pre-match press conference and added:

"We don't know if the team can last for 90 minutes. We've trained well and had an internal practice game on Sunday with three 20-minute periods. The intensity was very high. But of course, none of us knows where we stand."

Much to the delight of Flick, it was announced on Thursday that each Bundesliga team will be allowed to make five substitutions per game rather than the usual three.

"I have two more options, and I'm very happy with that, especially in this situation. I hope teams won't take advantage of it to waste time. We'll use it to substitute a player, who is tired. In weeks with a lot of games, that's great," he said.

Flick and Bayern face Union Berlin away from home on Sunday at 18:00 CET.
