Report: Gladbach's deal for Ecuadorian defender collapses

Local Ecuadorian radio reports that Borussia Mönchengladbach's purchase of 19-year-old defender William Joel Pacho Tenorio has collapsed.
A transfer hanging in the air for quite some time has now officially fallen apart according to domestic Ecuadorian sources. A €3 million deal to bring a young South American talent known as "William Pacho" to the Bundesliga reportedly inched closer to the line after multiple reports confirmed it in late July.

Apparently, it came rather close to happening. All numbers were agreed to. Pacho's club was guaranteed re-sale proceeds and the teenager even had his work visa ready. Before a scheduled medical, however, Glabach backed out for financial reasons.

BMG sporting director Max Eberl proved rather evasive when pressed recently about the stalled transfer.

"I can't say really because nothing is fixed yet," Eberl told the Rheinische Post, "With Luca Netz, Manu Koné, trainer [Adi Hütter] and the coaching staff, we've already invested [money]. We mustn't forget Hannes Wolf either."

It's entirely possible that Eberl had intended to sell more players to offset this particular investment. As is common when sales are agreed to in principle, it cannot be ruled out that the domestic club might file a trade complaint.
